KARACHI, March 15: The All Pakistan Music Conference (APMC) will hold its fourth annual festival at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), Hindu Gymkhana, from March 22 to March 24.

According to the organisers, the festival will be open and free to all music lovers. Performances on all three days will commence at 8.30pm.

This ‘Master’s Conference’ promises to be a grand celebration of music with performances by great maestros such as Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shaggan, Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, Ustad Naseeruddin Saami, Malikzada Hafeez Khan Talwandi, Fareeda Khanum and Ustad Bashir Khan.

“The festival will culminate on March 24 with a performance by the Indian classical vocalist Shubha Mudgal who is traveling to Pakistan especially for this event,” said Ayla Raza, general secretary of the APMC at a curtain raiser press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday.

The conference would start on March 22 with Salamat Hussain’s flute followed by the vocal performances of Naseeruddin Sami, Farida Khanum and Hafeez Khan Talwandi and Tabla by Tari Khan.

The next day, Fateh Ali Khan (Gwalior), Mubarak Ali Khan and Ghulam Hassan Shaggun will give vocal performances. Besides, Azad Qizilbash will play Sarod and Fareed Ayaz will present Qawwali.

Finally, Bashir Khan will play Tabla and Riaz Ali/Imtiaz Ali and Fateh Ali Khan (Patiala) will give vocal performances. The event will conclude with the singing of Shubha Mudgal.

According to Ms Raza, the APMC is a not-for-profit organisation which has been working since January 2004.

“It aims to contribute towards the development of a humane society by promoting the classical arts,” she said. - Dawn

    Hello Ayla ji,

I am Shaukat Bhatti from USA (New York). I am a big classical music lover and a fan of Ustad Salamat Hussain (bansuri player). I have been living in USA for the past 18 years and am a bansuri player myself. I am promoting classical musicians from Pakistan in USA. I am interested in starting the New York Chapter of APMC, and would like to contact you and talk about it further. Let’s accomplish this mission together.

    Thank you.

    Dear Ayla,

I am from Seattle, USA. But have temporarily moved to Pakistan this year to study with Ustad Fateh Ali Khan at the patiala gharana classical music academy in Islamabad.

I wanted help with the promotion of this academy. It would be great if you could circulate information about it among classical music entusiasts. You could find more information at:

    www.classicalmusicheritage.org

    Thank you!

    Hello Aftab & Shaukat,

It would be great if we could collaborate on this.

The USA chapter should be registered as a Non-profit organization in the USA so it is tax exempt. Once that is done it would be eligible for the donation matching program at corporations like Microsoft etc. We could develop a network of corporations and collect funds for the chapter. Then we can organize concerts/tours.

The chapter should also promote academies in Pakistan because that is where the students are trained. I want to promote the Patiala Gharana Classical Music Academy. This organization is operating on donations only.

Please contact me at nadiar@microsoft.com, nadia@classicalmusicheritage.org

Thanks a lot for your interest!
